The Rift Valley lakes

A rift valley is formed when the earth’s tectonic plates separate and move in the opposite directions, forming massive panoramic escarpments and cliffs. The Kenya’s rift valley is part of the Great Rift Valley stretching for 6,500 km (4,000 miles) from the Middle East to Mozambique.

The rift valley lakes in kenya offer one of the most unique ecosystems and bird life.

The world famous Masai Mara is on the floor of the rift valley. Other notable destinations include, Lake Nakuru National Park, Lake Bogoria, Lake Baringo, Lake Naivasha, Lake Elementaita and Lake Magandi.

The Kenya’s Rift Valley is a great choice for a slow-paced wild adventure. For bird lovers, this is the place to be—flamingos, pelicans, cormorants, fish eagles, egrets, herons, and many more.
Staying at any of the lake resorts or lodges is both adventurous and romantic.

Lake Nakuru National Park is a successful rhino sanctuary, home to both white and black rhinos, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes, and more.

As the day starts heating up, we drive back to for lunch, then do yet another game drive later in the evening.

It’s also home to Lions and Leopards.
We start early, and enjoy a slow paced drive, before doing our picnic breakfast by a waterfall.

The Lake Elementaita Game Sanctuary is worth a visit. It hosts herds of zebras, antelopes, giraffes, and more. Lions are occasionally seen here, and sometimes even the leopard. For a fun experience, we can also arrange a night drive.

Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake with numerous bird species and hippos. A boat trip is the highlight.

The boat driver guide will occasionally “call” the African Fish Eagle for a gift previously purchased at the local fish market. These magnificent white headed eagles are always alert, sweeping down gloriously to pick their target before flying back to the tree tops to enjoy their catch.

The boat trip includes also a short nature walk at an island inhabited mainly by several species of antelopes, zebras, giraffes and hundreds of bird species.

Lake Baringo is another option, although the drive is longer.Boat trips are the main attractions here.

Right next to the lake shores is an interesting snake park, and it’s worth a visit.

Lake Bogoria is a wonderful soft-adventure and holiday destination, famous for its large flocks of flamingos and hundreds of bird species. The hot water geysers along the lake’s shores are a truly spectacular sight.
