Meru National Park

This is a true wilderness destination in a remote, wide-stretching area of 850 km². The rugged terrain, threaded with more than ten streams, provides a thriving home for elephants (including the rare big tuskers), rhinos, buffaloes, lions, leopards, cheetahs, antelopes, and more. With hundreds of bird species, the park is a paradise for both wildlife lovers and nature seekers.

Tourist traffic in Meru is low, due to the distance from Nairobi. The drive takes up to 10 hours to the park gate, (320 km).

Meru National Park is ideal for a raw, wild adventure. It’s unspoiled, quiet, and spacious, offering a genuine wilderness feel. It was home to George and Joy Adamson, authors of the famous Born Free film, a true story about Elsa, the orphaned lioness they rescued, raised, and released back into the wild.

In Meru park, we begin with an early morning drive, when most of the wildlife is active. It’s also the ideal time for spotting cats.

Knowing where to look and when is vital.

We do a slow paced drive along the rivers and streams and other prime locations. This way, we get to explore and feel the wilderness of Meru National park.
Except “surprise” sightings.

As the day warms up, we make our way back to the lodge for lunch, then venture out again for an evening drive.

A stay of at least two nights is enough to explore this incredible wild destination.
