Amboseli National Park

This is typically a dry park 240 km from Nairobi . Approximately 4 to 5 hours drive.

The park is nestled on the the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro , the highest mountain in Africa.( 5,895 meters/ 19,341 feet ) above sea level.
Ground water from the mountain creates lush marshes, where herds of elephants and other wildlife spend days grazing. Here, animals have established a regular routine of reporting “to work” every morning at the marsh, then walking back home” later in the evening.

With a knowledgeable and experienced driver guide, you get an opportunity to witness this amazing natural phenomena.

We too, spend the whole day exploring one marsh after another. We make a short lunch break. Early mornings and late evenings provide the best opportunities for spotting the cats, especially lions and the cheetah. It is also the ideal time to view Mt. Kilimanjaro at its finest.

On a lucky day, a serval cat or a caracal can be seen and occasionally, the African Civet. Good timing and knowledge on their territories is important.

Large flocks of both the greater and lesser flamingos and other aquatic birds gather around the wetlands, where hippos can also be seen.

Best time to visit

Amboseli can be visited any time of the year. There are always unique sightings and surprises during each visit.
During the wet season, the park is green and beautiful, with hundreds of bird species and less tourist traffic. Facilities offer lower prices during this time.
However, the prime wildlife adventure season, and the best time to visit Amboseli is from January to February and again between June and October. During these months, animals spend more time around water points, and there is increased predator activity. Mount Kilimanjaro is also generally clear and visible during this period. Proper planning and experience makes the difference.
