Experience the magic of Samburu and Buffalo Springs National Reserves, where the arid terrain sets the stage for remarkable wildlife encounters. Elephants here are famously calm and unbothered, creating memorable close-up moments. While big cat numbers remain modest, sightings are frequent and always rewarding. This is one of the best places to capture the perfect photo of a leopard lounging on a tree branch.
With a rising cheetah population, spotting exciting hunting action is now more common than ever.
Our day begins at first light, carrying breakfast with us to make the most of prime wildlife-viewing hours—ideal for spotting a leopard and lions. The rolling hills and rocky mountains glow beautifully in the morning light. Later, as the heat arrives we drive back for lunch and head out again in the early evening.
The reserve is home to the Grevy’s Zebra, Reticulated giraffe, Somali Ostrich, Beisa Oryx and the long necked Gerenuk popularly known as the Samburu special five. On a lucky day we can witness a hunt.
Best time to visit
Ideal visiting periods are January to February and June to October, when wildlife is drawn to water points. Days are generally hot, while nights remain cooler.
